UnCommon Farms to host workshop on farm succession planning

FPWF - Fri Jun 27, 2:00AM CDT

Passing the farm onto the next generation is on the minds of many farm families these days. There’s a workshop slated for July 23 in Des Moines from UnCommon Farms to address this subject and the future of these farms.

The workshop — “Unlock Your Personalized Roadmap to Succession Success” — will be at Nationwide at 1100 Locust St. in Des Moines, Iowa. It starts with registration at 9 a.m. and continues until 4 p.m.

“No matter what generation, this workshop is designed for working farms to come and walk away with a clearer path forward for the future succession of their farm,” says Mike Downey, UnCommon Farms senior member coach and succession-planning lead.

This hands-on session — led by Downey and Paul Neiffer, a CPA with the Farm CPA Report — will provide actionable strategies to transform overwhelming plans into organized ones. They say this approach is a personalized one that’s focused on the needs of individual farming operations.

Workshop highlights include:

  • common traits of highly successful farm transitions
  • strong business and family foundations
  • business continuity and governance
  • management and leadership transition
  • family harmony and communication
  • estate planning and wealth preservation
  • your personal roadmap to succession

Hotel Fort Des Moines, which is connected to the Nationwide building, is recommended for overnight accommodations. Call 515-528-7733. Registration is required by July 19 at uncommonfarms.com/succession. For information, contact training@uncommonfarms.com.
